Hydro Power
|
A Sustainable Energy Solution
|
Hydropower is one of the most reliable forms of renewable energy. Rainfall tends to be greatest when power needs are highest, and so it is well matched to natures cycles. The rivers run day and night, and so output from a hydro scheme is much higher than say solar panels which turn off in the long dark winter nights.
The technology to convert falling water to electrical power is very efficient. No other renewable technology has a higher efficiency factor than hydro. |

In the early 1900s, many old mills across the country were converted to become electricity generating stations, providing light and power to local homes and businesses. The advent of the National Grid made these individual stations uneconomic, and they closed. We are now once again rejuvenating the old infrastructure, and putting it back into use to create sustainable power.

Through hydropower, electricity is once again being generated where it is consumed. This negates the transfer of power over long distances, which is in itself a wasteful process. Often towns, villages and estates owe their whole existence to the presence of hydropower in a certain location. Initially it provided food through milling or power for woodworking and weaving. Now the focus is returning to that power source as a means of providing the energy that gives us heat, light, communications and even transport.
You may have been thinking of tapping into the water resource on your property for years. You may already have redundant equipment such as a water wheel. You may have had a feasibility study done, but don’t know exactly what’s involved in turning that study into reality. You could also be totally new to the concept of renewable energy and hydropower power, but don’t know where to start. In every case, Potential Energy can help you.
