| The River Frome has a long history of hydropower as it drops 50m in just 13 miles, passing through more than 20 mills. At Iford, there was an old eel trap adjacent to the weir which provided an ideal location for a 3.0m diameter Archimedes screw turbine. The Frome is a flashy river which has large volumes of weed in autumn which would block a fine trash screen which made a screw turbine ideal for this site. |
